East– West Road

Project Description

The City of Tampa, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Florida Department of Transportation, (FDOT) is conducting a Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study. The Study's purpose is to establish the conceptual location and design concepts for a proposed East-West road between I-275 and C.R. 581 (Bruce B. Downs Blvd.). The PD&E project study area is bounded by I-275 on the west, C.R. 581 on the east, the Tampa Electric Company (TECO) easement on the south, and the Hillsborough/Pasco County line on the north. A corridor analysis was conducted to evaluate three (3) alternative corridors in addition to the No-Build Alternative. Based on the results of the corridor analysis phase of the PD&E study, Corridor B was recommended by the City's consultant for further detailed analysis and conceptual design development. To review the Final Corridor Analysis Report . Following the selection of Corridor B in July 2002, the city prepared an alternatives analysis of nine (9) build alternatives within Corridor B. To review the summary Alternatives Analysis Technical Memorandum published in June 2003 . To view the full Non-Toll Alternative Analysis Report published in May 2004, . The "No-Build" Alternative will be a viable alternative throughout the study process.

The PD&E Study is managed by the City of Tampa. It includes the evaluation of a multi-lane divided typical section for the proposed East-West road within the study area. Also, as part of the City's PD&E Study efforts, an Interchange Justification Report (IJR) is being prepared for a new interchange on I-275 between the existing Bearss Avenue and S.R. 54 interchanges.
