The Transportation Division of the Department of Public Works operates the City's transportation system through its management of the City's transportation and traffic planning activities; transportation project survey, design, and construction supervision; and sign, signal, and roadway maintenance activities. Transportation's present inventory consists of 1,441 miles of streets, 565 computerized traffic signals, and 68,300 traffic signs.

The Traffic Signal Box Painting Program enhances the pedestrian and driving experience by incorporating artwork by local artists directly into the streetscape.
